Brace Yourself...Awesome is Coming

Okay, well I think we've firmly established that I suck at titles. That's part of the reason this blog is about three days later than I intended. The other part n is that I had some bad luck financially and have been pulling all the hours I can at my day job, which will continue through this week. Now, on to the news...let's start with the least awesome and work our way up. I should have the first one or two movie reviews up by the weekend. I'm off Wednesday and will finally get a chance to check out an indie film that everyone's been raving about. I'll also have a missed gem from Netflix that I think needs more attention. The Snallygaster, a short story I wrote two years ago, is being looked at by a publisher. They're interested in turning it into a regular series for their ezine. I've never really planned on doing anything like that, but I never planned on being an author either. I'll be spending the next couple of weeks on that...and everything else that I'm working on. I'm hoping to have something functional by next Sunday and then we'll see what they say.

The first part of Batman vs Jason goes live on October 3rd! Ideally, I'll give you a chunk of the story every Tuesday throughout the rest of the year. Realistically, that means I'm going to have to write 10,000 words a week just on this one project. I'm not saying I can't do it, and I'm damn sure going to try, but don't be too disappointed if I'm a week behind. I'm going to be editing these myself...I'm dyslexic, generally sleep deprived, and taking care of two children by myself, so just be aware that I'm going to miss some shit.

And now it's time for THE BIG ANNOUNCEMENT!!!

Obviously, yes, it has to do with that bitchin' cover from SciFan Magazine. You should definitely click on that link. You can also find them on Facebook, of course. Issue 10 goes on sale this Friday and features my story "The Strange Times of Frank Locke." It will be available in paperback and all ebook formats through Amazon. I've been blown away with my experience working with these cats, and I've worked with several publishers over the last couple of years so that takes some doing. Please, don't just check out my issue, but pick up some of the older ones too and help SciFan become the number one name in speculative fiction magazines.

I got my issue early--because me and premature go together like Thelma and Louise--and I'm extremely pleased with the aesthetics of the magazine and the non-story content. Between getting the kids ready for school and me ready for work, I haven't gotten a chance to check out the other stories yet, but did get to go over the editorials which are well written and don't sound like whiny thirty-somethings that live with their mothers--a group that seems to make up two-thirds of the specfic community. I'm very happy to have my name attached to this project and hope to do more with them as they continue to grow. In fact, I've already written another story that I might be sending to them in the near future. The digital issue is already available for preorder here and only costs three bucks! Three, you cheap bastards.

Now, about the story:

Frank Locke is a time bastard. His time traveling mother got knocked up in her past and gave birth to him in his father's future. He shouldn't exist and the Council of Humanitarian Bliss is sure to remind him of that every chance they get. The utopian future wants to remain utopian and uses "paradoxical beings" like him to sort out problems. Now, a temporal terrorist named Jack Early has found away from the Ancient Future--a brutal hellscape that never was--and plans to fix things in his own image. To do that, he needs help. He's gone back to the 1950s to deliver a highly contagious plague to a seemingly harmless old coot, just some painter in the Hollywood hills named Adolf Hitler. Can Frank get to Hitler first and stop Early from arming the man with world's most potent biological weapon? Or is the world doomed no matter how many times Frank saves it?

That's all for now, but expect another update on the issue in a few days when I've had a chance to read it.

Until next time.

-David
